On 25 May 2020, George Floyd was murdered over the course of 9 minutes and 29 seconds by police in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His death prompted a worldwide outpouring of empathy and Black Lives Matter protests, and "anti-racism" became a commonly used term across the world.
The previous month, on 5 April, Belly Mujinga, who would have been shielding the week after the incident based on a change in government guidelines, died from Covid. The month before that, on 13 March, Breonna Taylor was shot six times and killed by police in her home in Louisville, Kentucky. They were looking for someone who was not there. No one has been charged with Breonna's murder.
Black people experienced a massive amount of emotional trauma in 2020. This had a profound impact on the mental health of so many. As a family, we have personal experience of this devastating impact.
10% from the sale of each of these T-shirts will go to Black Minds Matter UK. BMM UK is a charity that has made it their mission to connect Black individuals and families with free mental health services — by professional Black therapists, to support their mental health. To make this happen, they want to make mental health topics more relevant and accessible for all Black people in the U.K., removing the stigma and remodelling the services to be relevant for the Black community.
